Die cutting - One background die, 5 cards

This post shows the cards I make for the Waffle Flower Challenge with a theme of Color Crush. Yes, I do get carried away and make five cards - it would seem I cannot stop with one card! When it comes to my favourite colour, hands down, it’s most shades of blue as evidenced by my wardrobe and patterned paper that I gravitate towards. As I was writing this, I was thinking that I should have used pattern paper that I have been hoarding over the years.

I am in the midst of moving craft space over the next few months and as I pack things up I am discovering products, hence the use of glitter and buttons on cards in this post. I aim to use products I have ‘found’ in my craft space in upcoming challenges - that’s a personal challenge that I am imposing on myself.

Now back to the challenge - the main die I use is the Waffle Flower Big Dots Die with its coordinating Big Dots Sentiments stamp. I also use Waffle Flower’s Oversized Hugs Combo set, Bold Alpha die, A2 Layers die and Sentiment Additions Combo set.

The many ways I decorate the 5 cards using one background die is shown in the video below.

Happy Birthday

For this card I used the Waffle Flower Big Dots Die, and use a small ink blending tool to add distress oxide inks to each of the circles. Distress oxide inks used as Blueprint Sketch, Salty Ocean, Stormy Sky, Broken China, Faded Jeans. After that I spritz the ink blended circles with water to set the ink as well as to add some water texture to the ink. Then I add another layer of card that had been die cut with the Big Dots Die to lay over the ink blended circles to mask all of the ink that that ‘spilled’ over the circles.

For the sentiment I used the Big Dots Sentiments stamp set. Stamped on a dark blue card the ‘Happy Birthday’ sentiment with Versamark ink, sprinkled Ranger Super Fine White Embossing Powder and heat embossed with WOW Heat tool.

Finally I added The Robin’s Nest water dew drops in each circle with Art Glitter glue (with a fine metal tip) for added interest and dimension.

I add a dark blue fun foam to the back of the panel with double sided tape before adhering to an A2 sized card from Neenah Solar Crest white card 110lbs.

Hello

For this card I used the Waffle Flower Big Dots Die on Neenah Solar Crest White Card 80lbs which had been layered with double sided adhesive sheet. This will leave the circle exposed with adhesive where glitter can be srpinkled. Press glitter into adhesive with a bone folder, finger or any tool at hand.

Matt the A2 white card with metallic royal blue card. Die cut ‘hello’ die sentiment with the metalic royal blue card. I layered the hello die with four layers of white card stock.

LUKE

This is a card I make for my younger son, Luke who has a birthday coming up.

For this card I used the Waffle Flower Big Dots Die on Neenah Solar Crest White Card 80lbs and adhere to a white card. Then lightly adhere blue buttons from stash to circles. Once glue dries, use piercing tool in button holes. Use DMC thread and sew through button holes.

Die cut ‘LUKE’ in K&Company Remake Ocean Blues Paper Pad using Waffle Flower Bold Alpha dies and added four layers of white card stock behind the die cut alphabets for added dimension. The ‘love you’ was stamped in Versafine Deep Lagoon ink and die cut with coordinating die using Waffle Flower Sentiment Additions Combo set. Adhered ‘love you’ sentiment with adhesive foam strips for some dimension.

Hugs

After making three cards, I had many die cut white circles. I lined them up in a Splatter Box and sprayed with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Patina (I used Riptide but it is not available now, and Patina is the closest colour to Riptide) and Heidi Swapp Color Shine Teal spray. Once the circles had dried, i added some colour to the edged of the circles by ink blending with distress inks - Blueprint Sketch, Salty Ocean, Stormy Sky, Broken China and Chipped Sapphire.

On Neenah Solar Crest White Card 80lbs which had been cut smaller using Waffle Flower A2 Layers Die, layer with double sided adhesive sheet, and start arranging the circles in desired pattern - random or scaly.

Used Waffle Flower Oversized Hugs Combo set of stamp and die for the sentiment. Die cut ‘hugs’ in holographic silver card stock and backed with a few layers of of ‘hugs’ die cut in white card stock for dimension. For the supporting sentiment of ‘birthday’ and ‘coming your way’ stamped with Versafine Deep Lagoon ink and die cut with Altenew Featured Sentiments Die Set and adhered with adhesive foam strips for some dimension.

Be Well

For this card I used the Waffle Flower Big Dots Die on Neenah Solar Crest White Card 80lbs. Place card panel with the die cut of circles on an A2 piece of card and with a pencil to mark the two ends of the start and end of the circles on each row.

Used Pinkresh Studio Slimline Stripes Die to cut strips of card from K&Company Remake Ocean Blues Paper Pad. Then adhered the card panel with adhesive tape and stuck the strips of card in differing order. Once completed use the Waffle Flower Big Dots Die on the panel with the strips of card and cut out the circles. Adhere circles in any order to card panel.

Stamp ‘Be Well My Friend’ sentiment with Versamark ink, sprinkle with Adirondack Denim embossing powder and heat with WOW Heat tool.
